Former footballer Christian Atsu, who played for Chelsea, Málaga, Newcastle United, and Hatayspor, passed away 11 days after the earthquake that wreaked havoc in Turkey and Syria. His agent, Murat Uzunmehmet, announced the discovery of his body on social media after it was discovered beneath the debris. The sports world was shocked by Atsu's passing. He participated in the 2014 World Cup, the 2013 and 2015 African Cups, and 65 matches for Ghana.
In Turkey, Atsu, who was 31 years old, had been a player for Hatayspor. Atsu spent four seasons playing for Porto and Chelsea before being loaned to Málaga in Spain. Prior to joining Hatayspor, he previously played in Saudi Arabia, scoring one goal in three contests.
